January 2020 saw the Art Gallery of Algoma host their 7th Annual Winter Festival of Art - a community Art Festival with well over 100 submissions. The theme this year was 'Memories'.
Having just moved to Sault Ste Marie, ON and the Algoma region, I was excited to participate and meet other artists from the area. I grew up in southern Ontario, but have spent the last 14 years living on the Canadian Prairies. Spending the Autumn in Ontario again was an exciting adventure for our family. We spent any available sunny day hiking on the amazing trails in the beautiful Algoma region. I admit that I had forgotten the amazing colours of Autumn in this blessed province! Saskatchewan has beautiful, vast and wild skyscapes, but Ontario has maples!
I am thrilled to share that my piece, Remembering the Reds, won the Most Innovative Painting Award, presented by the Algoma Art Society. The Award was given this year in Memory of the Late Nancy Caldwell - a well known and beloved artist and instructor of this region. I am honoured.
